It has come to our attention by many Computer Whatever customers that they aren’t able to open their files with a ‘~$’ in front of it.
That’s because you can’t! The file with a ‘~’ in front of it is a temporary file and doesn’t actually exist. It is only making a backup of a file that you already have open. When trying to open the file ‘~$ch Tips’ Microsoft gives an error message:
In order to open this file you need to find the original of it. The original will not have ~$ in front of the file name:
If you don’t want to see these temporary files here’s how to turn off hidden files and folders.
-
Open Computer by clicking the Start button
-
Click the Organize tab in the top left corner.
-
Under Folders and Search Options, click the ‘View’ tab.
- Click on ‘Don’t show hidden files, folders, or drives’
If you need help with temporary files, or more explanation as to what they are stop on into Computer Whatever!
